A beginner’s guide to creating engaging Waves on Soundwave

Soundwave App: Beginner's Guide to Creating Engaging Waves
The Soundwave social audio app is a great place to find an audience that’s interested in what you have to say… or sing!

What makes a Wave engaging? Here are some tips and tricks on how to create the most engaging content on the Soundwave social audio app.

Choose a theme

Whether you’re starting a microcast, sharing your expertise, or chronicling a new life adventure, Soundwave enables you to tell a story and find an audience that’s uniquely interested in what you have to say.

The best creators clearly define their theme—that limited space they’re operating within—and stick with it. For example, musician and songwriter Jacqui Landri decided on her first Wave that she was going to use the app to share her music.

“I decided I’m going to sing random pieces of songs, and maybe, even hopefully, reveal some songs that I write,” she said in her first Wave. “It’s a lot less scary when you’re not playing in front of a ton of people.”

Her musical theme has helped her gain a following on Soundwave, and she recently posted her first self-written song on the app to great reception. Not only is her content engaging, but her audience knows what to expect, because she chose a niche topic area to tackle.

Post frequently

It may sound too obvious, but posting more frequently is a great strategy for increasing engagement. Soundwavers appreciate frequency from content creators they love.

The more you post, the more opportunity you have to strike a chord. You’ll have the likes and replies coming in in no time. Give more regular posting a try and see how it grows your audience.

Ask for opinions

Everyone has an opinion, and one of the best ways to engage Wavers on the Soundwave app is to ask for opinions. Asking questions is the best way to increase comments on your Wave, in fact.

What’s the best place to get pizza in New York? What’s the worst thing to say on a first date? What are some ways to save money on car insurance? Ask for opinions, and you shall receive.

Urban planner Shirese Louie, for example, got the community talking when she introduced herself and her love of cities, asking other Wavers, “What is your favorite city and why?”

While she could have waxed poetic as an urban planning expert, she instead handed over the mic to hear from others. Asking questions—and specifically asking for opinions—is a great way to get other Wavers talking.

Wear your emotions on your sleeve

Do you remember childhood TV shows and how emotive their characters were? Scooby Doo didn’t even speak English, but we all knew when he was scared out of his wits, because his characteristic yelp said it all. When he was jonesing for a biscuit, his enthusiastic chuckle made it clear, too.

Since Soundwave is an audio-forward app, it’s a great place for exploring how you speak and how you convey a story. Are you using your full range of emotions? Can the listener tell in your voice when you’re happy, sad, angry, anxious, excited?

Some of the best content on Soundwave is full of emotion—it makes us laugh, cry, think. One microcaster, Hector Parson—known as @ChalecoBean on the app—is always infusing pure joy into his Waves, for example. He can often be found recording with his wife or daughter in the background, in humorous conversations or situations. He posts about funny, relatable topics, such as urinal etiquette… when is it okay to say hello? Is it wrong to strike up a conversation mid-pee? Or rude not to?

In one recent Wave, Hector’s wife laughs in the background while he recaps a conversation they just had about not letting the moment pass. You can’t help but smile at their adorable banter and dynamic.

Fill out your profile

@MandyCalmDown has a complete and compelling bio on the Soundwave social audio app.

Finally, don’t forget the basics! Fill out your profile to introduce yourself:

  • Upload a profile picture. While Soundwave is all about voice, a profile picture let’s people see who is on the other end of the app. You’ll come off as more relatable if you include a legitimate photo of yourself.
  • Write a bio. Give the community insight into who you are and what you care about with a short bio statement. You can be clever with a quippy one-liner, savvy with well-placed emoticons, or thorough with up to 200 characters of reflective goodness.
  • Link to other social channels. Connect with your followers outside of Soundwave by linking to places you can be found. Add your Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and website links to make it easier for Wavers to find your content on other platforms, too.

Creating engaging Waves on the Soundwave social audio app starts with having a plan and sticking with it. Your content, frequency, theme, and delivery all play into how Wavers respond. Hopefully, this beginner’s guide helps you brainstorm ways to create compelling content that other Wavers can’t help but love.
